So I’m trying to prepare myself for the American Sewing Expo’s Passion for Fashion Contest. I entered the wedding dress I made for my friend Christina, and was notified a couple of weeks ago that I’m in. There are 12 of us finalists that will be competing in the live competition. I’m really excited b/c it’s modeled after Project Runway, which I’ve always wanted to audition for, but am not in a place in my life where I could just up and leave (what with a 3 year old at home and all). On Friday morning of the competition (Sept. 25), they’ll give us our challenge, then we have have 30 mins. to design and sketch before we shop the expo floor. We work on it for not quite 2 days then there’s a fashion show on Saturday night. Right now I’m trying to come up with design challenge possibilities. I don’t think it will be anything with wacky materials (like some Project Runway challenges) b/c the expo vendors are mainly fabric and other fiber goods. Anyone have ideas?
